Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan unveiled the new name and logo of the port during a ceremony held here.
The Vizhinjam port is being constructed under the public-private partnership model and witnessed protests as fishermen in the area opposed the project, alleging that it could adversely affect them.
The project involves constructing a two-kilometre, four-lane road to connect the port with NH-66.
The court said that the conditions stipulated in the order are illegal.
Ports Minister Ahamed Devarkovil said that the first ship would be docked at the port by September and the project will be commissioned by next year.
The origin and meaning of Vizhinjam, the place’s name, like many other localities in the capital, has several theories.
