Villagers are not allowing the corporation to shift garbage to the dump yard and seek immediate bio-mining of the waste at the site located in their area.
Around 1,000 to 1,100 tonnes of garbage is collected from the 100 wards in the city daily.
Around 50 officials have been entrusted with the task of reducing the height of landfill sites and monthly deadlines have also been set up, the officials said.
An official from the Corporation said that though they are sensitising villagers about the benefit of the project, the matter is yet to be resolved.
With a total of 100 wards in five zones of the city, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has been collecting around 1,000 tonnes of garbage every day on average.
This is delaying removal of ‘legacy waste’ which, under unsually high temperatures, leads to frequent incidents of fire.
