"When he was KVIC chairman, demonetisation happened and a cashier working there has given in writing that he was forced to carry out exchange of notes," AAP MLA Duregesh Pathak said.
A bag and a polybag containing old currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denominations, totally carrying a face value of 61,97,000, were recovered.
The NIA team intercepted the gang members carrying 28 cartons of demonetised notes worth Rs 36,34,78,500 at Jai Singh Road near Connaught Place in the national capital.
After being verified, sorted, shredded, recycled, they were sent to Kerala's North Malabar region– where it was further pressed into pulp to produce something charged with 28 percent GST–hardboard.
Since Indians who were abroad during November 9-December 30 have been given a three-month grace period till March 31 to deposit the notes, the final number is to be revealed after June, sources said.
