The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data showed the city had reported 809 cases on December 27, which meant the tally jumped by almost 10 times as on Sunday.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Dr Pradeep Vyas called upon the officials "not to be lulled" by the narratives that the third Covid / Omicron wave is mild and not fatal.
The state, however, hasn’t till now reported any case of Omicron variant, as the reports of the some Covid samples sent for genome sequencing are yet to be received.
The official release said that as per the latest report from the National Institute of Virology, seven new Omicron cases have been reported in Maharashtra including three in Mumbai.
The cases confirmed in Mumbai are three males aged 25, 37 and 48 years, all with a recent travel history to the UK, South Africa and Tanzania.
