At least 141 people died after a pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed on the Machchhu river in Gujarat's Morbi. Eyewitnesses said there were several women and children on the suspension bridge when its cables snapped. Three NDRF teams have been deployed to assist in rescue operations.
Delhi Chief Minister #ArvindKejriwal on Wednesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have photos of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on currency notes. Atleast 40 people have died after consuming spurious liquor in Gujarat's Botad district, while over 50 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Bhavnagar, Botad and Ahmedabad. At least 16 people died and more than 40 are reported missing after a cloudburst near Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir on July 8. 15,000 stranded pilgrims have been shifted to the lower base camp of Panjtarni. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has died in hospital after he was shot by an unknown attacker at an event in city of Nara. Eye-witnesses said they saw a man carrying a large gun and firing twice at Abe from behind. The first shot appears to have missed but the second shot hit Abe in the back.
