At least 141 people died after a pedestrian suspension bridge collapsed on the Machchhu river in Gujarat's Morbi. Eyewitnesses said there were several women and children on the suspension bridge when its cables snapped. Three NDRF teams have been deployed to assist in rescue operations.

Delhi Chief Minister #ArvindKejriwal on Wednesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have photos of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on currency notes. During a media briefing, he said the photos of Ganesha and Lakshmi could be printed on fresh currency notes. He added that the new notes could have a picture of Mahatma Gandhi on one side and of the two deities on the other.

Gujarat Hooch Tragedy: Over 40 dead; 50 hospitalised

Atleast 40 people have died after consuming spurious liquor in Gujarat's Botad district, while over 50 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Bhavnagar, Botad and Ahmedabad. The hooch tragedy broke out on the morning of July 25 after people living in Rojid and surrounding villages fell ill and rushed to the government hospitals seeking remedy. According to police, forensic analysis has established that the victims consumed methyl alcohol.

Droupadi Murmu scripts history by becoming the first-ever tribal woman to hold President's post. She is also the youngest to hold the office of the President, adding more to her many firsts. Amarnath cloudburst: 16 dead, over 40 missing; rescue operations underway

At least 16 people died and more than 40 are reported missing after a cloudburst near Amarnath in Jammu and Kashmir on July 8. 15,000 stranded pilgrims have been shifted to the lower base camp of Panjtarni. Rescue operations began immediately by the Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police and disaster management agencies. Following the tragedy, the Amarnath Yatra has been suspended.

Shinzo Abe: Japan ex-PM shot dead, attacker held

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has died in hospital after he was shot by an unknown attacker at an event in city of Nara. Eye-witnesses said they saw a man carrying a large gun and firing twice at Abe from behind. The first shot appears to have missed but the second shot hit Abe in the back. He immediately fell to the ground bleeding.
