The Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh claimed that 700 teachers, including one who was pregnant and forced to attend poll duty, have died in the state.
Over 5.27 lakh candidates are in the fray for more than 2.10 lakh seats in 17 districts in this round of the election.
Of the 20 districts, polling details of 14 have been compiled. While Lalitpur recorded the highest polling percentage of 80.95, Pratapgarh recorded the lowest at 60.06, the commission said.
The nomination process for the first phase of panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh started on Saturday.
The elections are due to be held April-May. Overall, 4,705 polling booths will be set up for the purpose.
The UP gram panchayat elections 2021 will be a key test of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government’s popularity, and an opportunity for opposition parties to gauge the public mood.
TSEC Commissioner C Parthasarathi said that the disqualifications were due to non submission of election expenditure accounts within 45 days from the date of election.
The first phase of voting for Panchayat elections will be held on April 15, followed by the second phase of voting on April 19, the third phase on April 26 and the final phase on April 29.
Additional Election Commissioner Ved Prakash Verma said a three-member team will be formed under the additional district magistrates to ensure the directives issued by the SEC are being followed.
A division bench, comprising Justice Rituraj Awasthi and Manish Mathur, also directed the state to complete the reservation process by March 27.
Subsequent to HC order, the state government has issued orders to the panchayati raj department and all district magistrates to stop the rotation of reserved seats till further orders.
No candidate filed nomination papers for the sarpanch and ward member posts despite their political affiliations.
The SEC said that permission for road shows will be given in a single-window system and focus should be laid on curbing flow of liquor and money during the elections.
On panchayat elections, Sajjala said they have put everything on the website including photos and comments of the victors.
