The flood situation in Assam remains extremely critical with many new localities coming under the impact of the deluge which is wreaking havoc in 33 of 35 districts of the state.
The situation statewide remained grim amid incessant rains for the past week. Rivers such as Brahmaputra, Kopili, Disang, Kushiyara and Barak were in a spate, flowing above danger levels.
The Chennai Corporation has kept 52 boats and 507 water pumps in readiness.
Chief Minister MK Stalin declared two days holiday, on Monday and Tuesday, for schools in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts due to heavy rain.
