A professor of Pachaiyappa’s College in Kancheepuram was booked for knocking down a 19-year-old girl with his car in the college playground on Sunday.
Of the injured, condition of two were serious.
Five persons of a family, including two children, died in a road accident near Veppur in Perambalur district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Syed Abdul Obaid, Zeeshan and Hannan, all residents of Malakpet. They were on their way to Jogulamba-Gadwal district when the mishap took place.
Three persons, including two children, were killed and nine others injured when an SUV collided with a truck in one of the incidents which took place around 2 am.
The incident was reported on Saturday morning when some villagers spotted the vehicle in the well, and a police team subsequently reached the spot to fish out the bodies.

Police said that Gowtham and Srikanth had gone to deliver food to an apartment building. After the delivery, the duo left the apartment.
The pick-up jeep was headed towards Sardarshahar from Haryana when it collided with the truck, the police said.
They called off the agitation after police intervened and assured to take steps to curb accidents on the highway.
