WATCH| BJP's Nabanna MARCH: Several injured, police vehicle set ablaze, over 90 arrested

The BJP-led "protest rally against corruption" in West Bengal on September 13 turned violent leaving several injured including police personnel and BJP workers. Police resorted to tear gas shell and water cannons to disperse protesters marching as part of the BJP's 'Nabanna Abhijan'. Similar scenes were witnessed in Howrah town, Kolkata's Lalbazar and MG Road areas.

Three Jharkhand Congress MLAs detained with Rs 49.8 crore in West Bengal; Congress accuses BJP

Police in West Bengal's Howrah district on July 31 seized "a huge amount of cash" from a car in which three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand were travelling, leading to allegations of political "horse-trading". The three MLAs have been detained for questioning about the source of the money. Meanwhile, the party has suspended all three MLAs. Acting on a tip-off, police on July 30 had intercepted an SUV in which Congress MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal Kongari were travelling on National Highway-16 at Ranihati in Howrah and allegedly found a huge amount of cash in the vehicle.

Teacher recruitment scam: ED arrests WB minister Partha Chatterjee; Rs 20 crore recovered

West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged teacher recruitment scam. The arrest comes hours after ₹ 20 crore was recovered from a close aide of the minister. Chatterjee was the education minister when the scam took place. The ED has also conducted raids on Minister of State for Education Paresh Adhikary and MLA Manik Bhattacharya in connection with the alleged scam.

Agnipath: 500 trains cancelled, security beefed up in several states over Bharat Bandh

In view of the Bharatbandh call by some organisations as a protest against the Agnipath scheme, security has been beefed up in several states. Tight security forces are deployed in Bihar, Vijayawada, West Bengal's Howrah and Punjab to tackle any crisis that may arise. Parts of Delhi witnessed traffic jams as several roads were blocked ahead of the Congress' protest against the Agnipath and ongoing Rahul Gandhi's ED grilling.

Cyclone Asani Updates: Severe cyclonic storm to hit Andhra, Odisha; heavy rainfall from May 10

The IMD in its latest bulletin said the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal will remain in the form of a cyclonic storm till May 8 evening and later intensify into a severe cyclonic storm which will continue till May 10 night. Reportedly, the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal will bear the brunt of it. Subsequently, Asani will lose steam in the sea and become another cyclonic storm on May 11 and 12.

WATCH | 4 kangaroos found in Bengal, 3 injured & 1 dead; Probe ordered

On April 1, forest officials in West Bengal’s #Jalpaiguri district were in for a shock. They ran into 2 kangaroos while patrolling forest areas near Gajoldoba in the Jalpaiguri district. In a bizarre turn of events, officials rescued a third #kangaroo from Farabari, around 40 km away, on the same day. Locals also came across a dead kangaroo on April 2. These incidents come nearly 3 weeks after 2 men were arrested trying to smuggle a kangaroo into West Bengal’s Alipurduar district.

Bengal bypolls: Mamata Banerjee wins Bhowanipore by-election with record margin

#TrinamoolCongress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister #MamataBanerjee has won the Bhowanipore by-election by a margin of 58,832 votes. Earlier, the Election Commission has revealed that she was leading BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal by 52,017 votes after the sixteenth round of counting on Sunday morning Mamata broke her party's victory margin record of 49,936 votes in 2011 Assembly elections, the year she derailed LF's 34-year regime.

Assembly Elections 2021: Second phase of polls kick starts in West Bengal and Assam
