China's People's Liberation Army has begun military drills in the seas around Taiwan -- some of the world's busiest waterways, following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taipei. China launched projectiles into the Taiwan Strait on July 4, as Beijing's military announced "long-range live ammunition firing" in the area. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, landed in Taiwan on August 2 evening amid the warning issued by President Xi Jinping to US President Joe Biden last week, to “not play with fire” (by provoking China). Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan is the highest-level visit by an American official to the island in a quarter century.
