Putin declares income of $122,000 for 2011

MOSCOW: Russian Prime Minister and president-elect Vladimir Putin earned 3.662 million rubles ($122,000) in 2011, according to his income declaration posted on the government's website Thursday.

In 2010, Putin earned 5.042 million rubles.

Putin still possesses an apartment, a garage and a plot measuring 1,500 square metres, according to the declaration.

Russia's top officials have been required to declare their income since 2008 in an effort to curb corruption in the country.

Putin has said the law requiring Russian government officials to disclose their incomes should be expanded to include the heads of state companies, universities and state medical establishments.
