Eight people were drowned in Pakistan Sunday after the wire of a cable car lift installed over the Indus river in a town in the Gilgit-Baltistan area snapped, Dawn reported.

All eight passengers were swept away by the strong river currents. Rescue efforts in the Chillas town were getting obstructed by a surge in the river's waterflow, the report added.
