Egypt court orders Mubarak retrial

A court in Egypt has granted former president Hosni Mubarak's appeal against his life sentence and Sunday ordered a retrial of the ousted leader.

The 84-year-old Mubarak was jailed on charges that he failed to prevent the deaths of protestors during the uprising against his regime.

The court accepted the appeal filed by the lawyers of Mubarak and former interior minister Habib al-Adli, also sentenced to life imprisonment, and review the case in a different court.

Mubarak was overthrown in February 2011 after an 18-day popular uprising. He was sentenced in June 2012 to life imprisonment by a court for failure to stop the killing of protesters by security forces during the revolt.

Over 800 people were killed and 6,000 injured during the uprising.
