Airlines have warned of flight cancellations and severe delays as snow was forecast to fall around the country over the weekend, the Daily Mail reported.

At least 100 flights were cancelled at Heathrow Saturday with hundreds more suffering severe delays.

British Airways apologised to passengers after many were left stuck on planes and stranded at Heathrow as more than 400 flights were cancelled Friday due to snow.

Passengers complained at being left on board grounded planes for several hours while others were unable to collect their luggage.

Further snow falls have been forecast while freezing temperatures are expected to bring treacherous driving conditions due to ice.

Several football matches have been cancelled in the country.

South Wales was one of the worst hit areas Friday with thousands of homes being left without power.

About 900 homes in Northern Ireland were also without power Saturday.

The Highways Agency has warned drivers to take extra care on the roads and even delay travelling over the weekend due to the poor weather conditions.

Police in Lincolnshire said a young woman died following a crash involving a number of vehicles in bad weather near Grantham.

Gatwick airport said it was operating as normal but did warn there may be some minor disruption to flights.

A small number of domestic flights were cancelled at Manchester airport due to weather conditions at Heathrow.

British Airways said it would be offering refunds to customers or would allow them to rebook their flight for a later date if they no longer wished to travel over the weekend.
