"One person and the attacker were killed, two women and two children were injured when the blast took place at the front gate of Green Village compound at around 5.15 p.m. in Pul- e-Charkhi area," reported Xinhua citing a police officer.

Dozens of foreign nationals, mostly contractors from different countries, diplomatic personnel and UN employees, live in the compound, the official said, adding that it was not immediately clear whether any foreigner was harmed in the incident.

No militant group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
