Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday opened to traffic the Omanthai-Kilinochchi section of the US$ 334.69 million Omanthai-Kankesanthurai railway line being constructed by the Indian public sector company IRCON International.
The famous train ‘Yal Devi’, which used to run from Vavuniya to Jaffna, was destroyed by the Tamil militants in 1990. On Thursday, Panchamuthu Thirunavukkarasu (78) was killed when the train’s engine ran over him during a trial run.
