Check out the cheeky gift J K Rowling's son gave her

When your children do cool things that you don't fully approve of but are secretly proud, what do you do? Tell others about it in a dismissive manner. J K Rowling did the same.

The author of the immensely popular Harry Potter books, who celebrated her 51st birthday on Sunday, took to Twitter to post a photo of an "unacceptable"-- but treasured, no doubt -- gift her 13-year-old son David gave her: a coffee mug featuring a grumpy owl saying "F&*K Off"!

Before you gasp, the foul-mouthed owl came with a "pun-ny" disclaimer: 'Irritable Owl Syndrome'.

"I think we can all agree that this is an unacceptable gift from a son to his mother on her birthday," Rowling admits in a tweet, though seemingly proud of her son for coming up with a creative personalised gift. The protagonist of J K Rowling's books, Harry Potter, has had a healthy disregard for the "rules", and we expect the writer's son, David, too has imbibed some of that.

The Owl is an easily identifiable Harry Potter motif, and the gift no doubt would make a "cool" addition to Rowling's work desk, especially in a teenager's mind, but it's probably not the "kosher" thing you'd expect a son to give his mother.

Rowling's latest, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, hit the shelves on Sunday and fans have flocked the stores to purchase a copy of the book, which is the script of a play by the same name that premiered on Saturday, July 30, to rave reviews, a day before her birthday.
