16 killed in Philippines due to typhoon Haima

MANILA: At least 16 persons were killed in the Philippines due to super typhoon Haima, locally named as Lawin, an official said on Saturday.

According to National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad, most of the casualties came from Cordillera region due to landslides.

A total of 149,659 persons were displaced, Xinhua news agency reported. Most of them remained inside 643 evacuation centres, NDRRMC said.

There are still some areas which have no electricity supply and with intermittent telecommunication signal.
