Nine dead in head-on Bulgarian crash

Nine people were killed and 19 injured as a minibus collided head-on with a truck on a busy road in Bulgaria on Friday.

SOFIA: Nine people were killed and 19 injured as a minibus collided head-on with a truck on a busy road in Bulgaria on Friday, authorities said.

The minibus was transporting visually impaired people on a trip. Six of the 27 people aboard including the driver died on the scene, and three more in hospital.

Some of the others remained in critical condition. The incident happened at a notorious accident black spot near the northern village of Mikra.

In 2016, Bulgaria had the highest number of deaths from road accidents per million in the European Union. So far this year, the number of victims was 565.
