40-year-old Gambhira bridge collapses in Vadodara; ten killed, five injured

Ten people were killed after a portion of the four-decade-old Gambhira Bridge collapsed near Mujpur in Vadadora in Gujarat.

Five people were injured. Two trucks, a pickup van, an autorickshaw and an Eco vehicle fell into the brimming River.

Vadodara R&B Executive Engineer N. M. Nayakawala said, "The Gambhira Bridge, built in 1985 with a lifespan of 100 years, was not in a dilapidated condition."

"The exact cause of the collapse will be known only after the detailed report is submitted," he said.

An NDRF team has been dispatched to the site. Rescue and recovery operations are underway.
