E-commerce major Amazon is looking to hire over 1000 people in India, most of them as software professionals, sources stated.

According to a report by the Times of India, the recruits will largely work on research and development for Amazon.com, Amazon India, the company’s devices business, cloud-computing segment and Amazon Web Services.

"The numbers are mind boggling. We're looking at a fully functional tech organisation in India and are hiring varied skills across several job families. India is a big focus area for talent," Dale Vaz, director of software development at Amazon India told TOI.

Data analytics, natural language processing, artificial intelligence machine learning and Android development are some of the most-sought after skills looked for by the company, the report added.

In India, Bengaluru is the largest centre for the company and is also recruiting the most number of people.

A majority of openings in its subsidiary Amazon Web Services, for instance, are in Bengaluru with over 550 vacancies, followed by Hyderabad and Chennai, the report stated.

India is currently the second largest workforce centre for Amazon after the US. Globally, it has 3.41 lakh employees.
