Sensex down by 417.95 in week on weak global cues

Worries over US-China trade disputes, a possible slowdown in the Chinese economy and higher US borrowing costs dampened sentiment.

MUMBAI: The BenchMark Index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) fell 417.95 points or 1.2 per cent to settle at 34,315.63 in week under review on weak global cues.

Worries over US-China trade disputes, a possible slowdown in the Chinese economy and higher US borrowing costs dampened sentiment.

The Nifty 50 index fell 168.95 points or 1.61 per cent to settle at 10,303.55 The BSE Mid-Cap index fell 227.92 points or 1.6 per cent to settle at 14,058.30.

The BSE Small-Cap index fell 76.51points or 0.54 per cent to settle at 14,082.92.

Trading for the week started on a positive note as key equity indices finished higher in a volatile trade on Monday, October 15, 2018.

Sensex rose 131.52 points to settle at 34,865.10.

Nifty also rose 40 points or 0.38 per cent to settle at 10,512.50.

Key equity benchmarks rose on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, as investors shifted their focus to the September quarter earnings season.

A fall crude oil prices and an appreciation of rupee against the dollar also boosted sentiment.

Sensex rose 297.38 points to settle at 35,162.48.

Nifty rose 72.25 points to settle at 10,584.75.

Key equity benchmarks ended sharply lower on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, as selling in auto and financial stocks put pressure on bourses.

Sensex fell 382.90 points to settle at 34,779.58.

Nifty declined by 131.70 points or 1.24 pc to settle at 10,453.05.

BSE and NSE remained shut on Thursday, October 18, 2018, on account of Dussehra.

Indices dropped on Friday, October 19, 2018, dragged by selling in index heavyweight Reliance Industries, HDFC and Infosys.

Negative global cues weighed on market sentiment.

Sensex fell 463.95 points to settle at 34,315.63.

Nifty also fell 149.50 points to settle at 10,303.55.
