BENGALURU: At the recently held India Gadgetz Expo 2016, we spotted a few interesting technologies. Here’s a pick of seven from the three-day event, which was held at KTPO Exhibition Centre, Whitefield, Bengaluru. The event saw participation from big brands such a Apple, Motorola, Intex and Oppo, and and more than sixty hardware start ups.

Cycle through Bengaluru
Cycling is a popular form of commute in the city. Startups such as Volta Motors and Bitmotion design bicycles that are energy efficient. The bicycles come with inbuilt, rechargeable and durable batteries and also have place for storage. They also travel reasonable distances on a single charge – up to 60 km.

Save Water
Track your water and power consumption on a daily or monthly basis. FluxGen presented specially designed gadgets that can measure water and energy used -- using water flow sensors and energy meters -- then gather the data, update it on a server and send reports to users via a mobile app. The reports on consumption can also help people manage their expenses.

Cuboid Teacher

Sirena technology, a Bengaluru-based startup, had come to the fest with a humanoid robot that can be used for educational purposes. It targets a wide-range of students, from pre-schools to colleges, with interactive tools. Don’t imagine a Wall-E gliding into your classroom though, this robot is not for sale yet.

Carry Your Recharge
A dying mobile battery is an annoyance, especially when it starts to blink on-the-go. A start-up company LUMOS, founded by Gandharv S Bakshi, Lavina Mahbubani and Vignesh Reviraj, has designed and manufactured bags that store solar energy when you are out walking or cycling. The stored up energy can be later used to charge mobile and portable devices. The bag is made with solar fabrics and comes in three sizes. They are priced at Rs 3,500, Rs 4,999 and Rs 5,500. They are available online.

Locate Your Dog
If you don’t want to lose your pets, you can try WAGR’s light-weight dog collars attached to a mobile app by the company’s name. The collar acts as a GPS tracking device and gives information about the pet, like if the dog is getting enough sleep and exercise or if he or she is behaving oddly.  The app also helps in connecting a group of dog lovers and in finding products and services, in addition to getting reminders.

Schools,  Anywhere
PINUT has come up with what they call “an offline content distribution platform”. With the Wi-fi router, the PINUT founders say you can convert any place into a Wi-fi hotspot and access it through your smartphone. With this, anyone can take internet and its educational videos to rural students, who do not otherwise have acccess to good net connection.
