Government appoints administrative officer for Alliance university

Students of Alliance University heaved a sigh of relief with the Department of Higher Education issuing an order appointing Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner as administrative officer.

BENGALURU: Two years after they got caught in the crossfire between two warring brothers, students of Alliance University at Anekal heaved a sigh of relief with the Department of Higher Education issuing an order appointing Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Shankar as administrative officer of the institute.

Henceforth, the activities of the university will be monitored by administrative officer. The university will function as usual with the existing staff and students but the family or the brothers will not be allowed to interfere in the administration. However, the order does not mention about the tenure of the administrative officer.

Based on the opinion given by the law department, Higher Education Minister Basavaraja Rayareddi directed the officials to issue the order and also submit it before court. “As the matter is pending in court, we need to submit the order on appointing an administrative officer to the court,” said an official.
The order reads: “Considering the interests of the students, the government has sought opinion from the law department about appointing an administrative officer. After we received opinion stating we can make such appointment, it has been implemented. This will give relief to students and they can complete their courses without being victims of internal dispute.”

Over the last two years, Alliance University has been in the centre of a dispute between two brothers over administrative control and the students and staff have been at the receiving end. The university had suddenly declared a holiday and postponed the academic calendar twice, putting the students into trouble. Recently, some miscreants entered the campus and attacked some students and staff. Several complaints have been registered with Anekal police over the issue.
