Gang cut open ATM machine using gas cutter, escape with Rs 1.87 lakh cash

A gang of unidentified men broke open an ATM machine belonging to Dhanalakshmi Bank at Madanayakanahalli near Nelamangala on Sunday night.

BENGALURU: A gang of unidentified men broke open an ATM machine belonging to Dhanalakshmi Bank at Madanayakanahalli near Nelamangala on Sunday night. They made away with Rs 1.87 lakh while no security guard had been deployed at the kiosk, the police said.A senior police officer said the incident took place late in the night. The ATM kiosk is located on Lakshmipura main road.  The miscreants used a gas cutter to break the machine and escaped with the cash. The incident came to light only around 12.30pm on Monday when Govindraju went to attend to a service order as there was no response from the server connected to ATM machine.

As the miscreants closed the shutter of the kiosk after the theft, none noticed that the machine was broken into. Dhananjay, a house-keeping staff in the bank was alerted about the incident and then manager Ravikumar was informed. The gang cut the ATM machine into two and yet no alert was issued from the machine to the bank staff. 

Madanayakanahalli police along with fingerprints experts and a dog squad rushed to the spot to gather information. “We have obtained CCTV camera footages to ascertain the identity of the accused and they might have observed that there was no security guard.

No customer came to withdraw money at the time, especially because it was late in the night and the shutter was downed by the gang. The senior police officers inspected the spot and a special team has been formed to nab the accused,” the officer added.
