BENGALURU: In an attempt to alert road users on real-time traffic conditions, Bengaluru Traffic Police installed advanced real-time Variable Messaging System (VMS) boards at Hebbal Junction on a pilot basis.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R Hithendra said, “This gives real-time updates based on the programme. Illumination and look of the new digital board is better. Data displayed is also not repeated.”
Officials said VMSs will give alerts on traffic conditions such as diversions, parking and speed limits. “These digital boards are expected to save time and reduce traffic congestion. We are planning to expand this initiative to other congested routes based on the success of the pilot project,” said an official working on the project.
“We could display information of expected drive time between junctions. It can be displayed in various colours which will enhance visibility,” he said.
