BENGALURU:People know Sukhwinder Singh for his hit Bollywood songs such as Udi Udi Jaaye and Jai Ho, but very few may know that he’s a huge Serena Williams fanboy.

“I love Serena Williams,” he says. He adds that if he weren’t a musician, he would have been a runner.
“I would have got at least 10 to 12 medals for India in Olympics. I was one of the top Asian runners. But now, I do not run fast. But I do jog for three and a half hours every day.”
A sports lover, Sukhwinder says, “I have donated seven mats to wrestlers from poor families. Everyone says the government is not doing anything, but we can also contribute.”
About music, he feels the scene has changed a lot.
Sukhwinder then deviates from a question on him to talk about his single life. “I regard friendship with everyone equally. I might have met you for the first time but to me, I share the same bond with you as with my other friends. I am like this personally. This is why I did not get married yet. I love every girl and they love me.”

He adds, “I have to mention one of my favourite songs Solah baras ki bali umar ko salam, pyaar teri pehli nazar ko salam. It is from the film Ek Duje ke Liye, sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Today, the music has changed a lot. The aura has changed. Now, there are songs on breakups and after breakup party.”
But to him, every song is important. “People might sign me in for specific songs but to me, all songs are important,” he says adding that the song Bismil from the movie Haider was the song he had most trouble with. The song won him a national award. “It was a bit difficult to sing, but no one could guess when they heard the song. We cannot serve such difficult songs to people as it will then become art song.”
Ask who is the actor he likes to do playback singing for and he says, “Sukhwinder Singh.” And the soundtrack that describes him or his life the best, he says “It is difficult to say”.

Sukhwinder Singh performed on Friday at Phoenix Marketcity. Talking about his performance, he says, “There are some places that are special. Bengaluru is very youthful. You get audience from every age group,” adding that he never plans his performance in advance. “I don’t plan the songs a day or two before the event. I plan on stage. I plan only the first song before five minutes of my performance. When I go on stage, I meet
people and understand what type of audience they are. I then decide what I should sing.”
