BENGALURU: On the last day of the biennial aerospace expo Aero India, many visitors parked their vehicles on the flyovers along Bellary Road in the city and watched the air show here, as the traffic snarls stretched for more than five kilometres along the road.

Bumper to bumper traffic jams were witnessed in several locations along the busy Bellary Road, which also connects to Kempegowda International Airport Ltd, at Devanahalli. Slow moving traffic was witnessed along Hebbal flyover, Yelahanka New Town area, Jakkur and others.

Residents trying to connect to Bellary Road, from arterial roads in North Bengaluru were seen facing problems due to the traffic pile up.

Bengaluru Traffic Police has deputed personnel along the stretch of Bellary Road from Hebbal to Yelahanka Air Force Station, to divert and manage traffic.

Morning blues

Traffic in the road had peaked by 8.30 AM, due to the flow of visitors to Aero Expo. Around 12 noon, many visitors assuming that they could not reach air show on time parked their vehicles on the roadsides of the flyover and were seen watching the performances of aircraft over Yelahanka Air Force Station.

Rajesh, a software professional who had come with his family, parked his vehicle on the roadside on the flyover near Yelahanka Air Force Station and watched the aerobatics.

"I started at around 9 AM from Mekhri circle," who was stuck at the elevated Highway, near Nitte Meenakshi College Road, at 12 noon. He had covered only 11km in three hours.

"It would take at least another two hours for me to reach the parking lot and half an hour to Air Force Station. I realised that I would reach the Station only when the show ends. My kids were excited to watch the aerobatics from here, and so eventually, I parked my car on the roadside and let them watch it,” he said.

Traffic police had diverted public and private transport vehicles on BB road to make way for the delegates and visitors of Aero India 2017.
