BENGALURU: A 22-year-old man has been arrested for misbehaving with a school girl on Tuesday. Police identified the accused a Manikantha, a construction labourer and a resident of Muneshwara Block. He is a PU dropout and a drug addict. He would stalk girls and women and harass them frequently, they said.

According to police, on Tuesday Manikantha confronted a girl who was returning from school and misbehaved with her by repeatedly asking her, “Can you hug me?”. The victim raised an alarm following which passersby chased and caught him. The irate public started thrashing him but by the time police arrived, Manikantha managed to flee from the place.

Later, the victim along with her parents, filed a complaint with the police who had received a similar complaint from another girl earlier in the day.

Police said, “We tracked him based on the description given by locals and the victim and also based on the vehicle registration number that we saw in some CCTV footage. The accused has been booked under various sections of the POCSO Act and also under Section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty).”
