Three more Humsafar trains for Karnataka

In addition to that, Uday Express (double-decker train) from KSR station to Coimbatore will also be launched.

BENGALURU: Indian Railways is all set to introduce three more Humsafar trains for Karnataka shortly. These are GPS based, AC 3-tiered trains with special facilities for disabled.

Speaking to Express, S S Soin, Additional General Manager (AGM), South Western Railway, Hubballi, said, “Railways will be introducing three more weekly Humsafar trains before March, two of which will originate within Bangalore Division.

The operation of trains though will fall under the jurisdiction of different railway zones and not the South Western Railway. The Humsafar trains offer additional comfort for passenger.”

The Kamakhya-Bengaluru Cantonment Weekly Humsafar Express was launched on December 25 from Kamakhya (Assam) and commenced regular operations from Bangalore Cantonment from December 30.
The new Humsafar trains will be introduced to Bhuvaneshwar from Krishnarajapuram, to Howrah from Yesvantpur and to Tiruchirapalli from Sriganganagar (Rajasthan), said Soin. The Hamsafar category of trains were announced by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on August 17 last year.

Elaborating on its features, divisional railway manager, Bengaluru Division, Sanjiv Agarwal, said, “The trains will have an LED display board and coaches will have sensors to detect smoke and fire. The coaches are disabled-friendly with Braille display.” Bio-toilets, vending machines that can give tea, coffee and soup and newly designed dustbins are other features, he said.

In addition to that, Uday Express (double-decker train) from KSR station to Coimbatore will also be launched. The train will leave Coimbatore at 5.45am and reach KSR station at 12.35 pm. In the return direction, it will leave KSR at 2.15 pm and reach Coimbatore at 9 pm. It will run on all days except Monday. This will only be the second double decker from Bengaluru. One such train runs to Chennai daily.
