Bulgarian firm examining tunnel road possibility

A Bulgarian company has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a preliminary report to create a Tunnel Road for the city, said Bengaluru Development Minister K J George.

BENGALURU: A Bulgarian company has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a preliminary report to create a Tunnel Road for the city, said Bengaluru Development Minister K J George.
Briefing reporters after a review meeting held at the Chief Minister’s official residence ‘Krishna’ on Friday morning, George said a few places in the city have been proposed for the location of the Tunnel Road. K R Puram, Yeshwantpur and Hebbal figure among them.
“We have asked them to explore the feasibility of these routes. It is in a very preliminary stage as of now,” he said.

Reliable sources said the project could cost up to `600 crore per kilometre.
Asked about the alternative to the scrapped Steel flyover, George said, “The proposed elevated corridor was “the ultimate solution for the city’s traffic woes. It would connect East-West and North-South of the city. “

The corridor, roughly estimated to cost `25,000 crore, has been proposed for a length of 83 kilometres. The sections proposed are- North-South: Central Silk Board to Hebbal through the city (16 km); East-West: K R Puram to Gorguntepalaya and Jnana Bharathi to Varthur Kodi. There will be three connecting corridors: Agara to Kalasipalya (9.2 km); Richmond Circle to Halasuru (2.3 km) and Kalyan Nagar to St John’s Church Road (7.5 km).

Arkavathy land losers to get sites in K G Layout
George said that those who have lost their sites in Arkavathy Layout can opt for an alternative site in Kempe Gowda Layout. “It will be the same size, same rate,” he said.  The BDA has also extended
the date for making final payment for those who had purchased sites in K G Layout to May-end, said  BDA Secretary Basavaraju.

Steel flyover allegations false, says minister

The BJP made “false allegations to stall the steel flyover motivated by political considerations,” George said. BJP does not want anything good to happen in Bengaluru,” he added.
