BENGALURU: A 19-year-old engineering student committed suicide by jumping under a train at Chikkabanawara near Soladevanahalli on Monday morning. Police are investigating it as a case of unrequited love. The victim had left a message to his brother stating that a girl he loved had not bothered to return his greeting on her birthday.

The student has been identified as Savio, a native of Meghalaya studying in a private college on Hesaraghatta road. He was living in a paying guest accommodation along with his brother.

The Yesvantpur railway police rushed to the spot upon being alerted about the incident and shifted the body to the MS Ramaiah Hospital for post-mortem procedures. Before he ended his life, Savio had sent a message to his brother, stating, "I am sorry, I do not want live and also do not blame anyone."

Preliminary investigations revealed that Savio was in love and had sent a message to the girl on Sunday night greeting her on her birthday. The girl, who lives in Meghalaya, did not respond to his message. Police are guessing this may have triggered Savio’s suicide impulse.
