Lecturer beaten up inside car

BENGALURU: Mahalakshmi Layout police who are investigating a case of kidnap and assault of a 38-year-old lecturer said the kidnap seemed to be a planned one or the kidnappers knew the lecturer beforehand.

According to the complainant, on October 21 around 4.40pm, Santosh, a lecturer at Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology College, said he was trying to book an app-based cab while waiting near Narayana E Techno School in Kempegowda Layout. A car pulled in where Santosh was waiting and the driver asked him to book the ride. However, before booking the ride, Santosh boarded the vehicle thinking he would book the ride on the way. But there was another person already in the car who started assaulting Santosh. After the car travelled 50m, two others got into the car and began assaulting Santosh.

The accused threatened Santosh to give them his money. When Santosh gave away the `200 that he was carrying, they demanded more. They threatened him at knife point and asked him to call his family members for his ATM card details. Santosh called his parents from his phone and received the details on WhatsApp. Using the information, the accused then transferred `14,000 from Santosh’s account to one of their PayTm accounts. The supects then pushed Santosh out of the car near Lumbini Gardens.

In his complaint, Santosh said he suffered injuries on his face and a fracture in his rib cage.
Police have registered a case under IPC Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt). Police are also going through footage gathered from CCTV cameras placed at the spot from where SAntosh boarded the car.
