Missing 16-year-old from Bengaluru found dead in Dakshina Kannada

Boy’s parents had suspected that he had left the city as he was upset over not being able to study well.

BENGALURU/ MANGALURU: A 16-year-old boy, who had gone missing from Hoodi in Mahadevapura police station limits on Tuesday, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Guruvayanakere lake in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday. Police are yet to determine if this was a case of suicide or if there was any foul play.Yashwant Sai, an SSLC student at ITI Vidya Mandir in Dooravaninagar, is the deceased. He was staying with his grandparents at Muniswamy Shetty Layout in Hoodi. His parents live in Kuppam in Chittoor of Andhra Pradesh.

Around 8 am on Tuesday, Yashwant was dropped at Hoodi bus stand by his grandfather HM Tyagaraj. He was supposed to return by 4.30 pm but he did not. Tyagaraj searched for him at his relative’s houses and did not find him. On inquiring with the school staff, he learnt that Yashwant had not attended classes. On Wednesday, he filed a missing person’s complaint with the Mahadevapura police.

Meanwhile, Yashwant’s body was found in Guruvayanakere lake in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday morning. DK Superintendent of Police said that no injuries were found on his body. Quoting the boy’s father Premkumar NV, the SP said he was poor at studies and had not done well in school.

It was reported that he had written in his dairy that he was going to Udupi and had to work there for five months. But the Mahadevapura police said that no such thing had come to their notice and Yashwant’s parents had suspected that he had left the city as he was upset over not being able to study well.Head master of ITI Vidya Mandir Narasaiah, however, said that Yashwant was a bright student.

“He was a good student and mingled with all. There was no incident of teasing or ragging in the school, and we are shocked to know about his death. We also enquired with his friends whether he had shared anything with them. But they have no idea.
