Get ready for a ‘super’ supermoon

Get

Monday is not just a full moon day; it is actually a super-supermoon day. The moon will appear
14% brighter and 30% larger than a regular full moon

DOUBLE DHAMAKA
On Monday, the moon will turn full at 7.22 pm IST, two-and-a-half hours after reaching the perigee - the closest point from earth
The near synchronisation of perigee and full moon phase will mean the moon will look apparently brighter and larger

3 Supermoons This Year
Monday not only has the closest of the three full moons this year, but this is the closest full moon since January 26, 1948
The next super-supermoon won’t occur until November 25, 2034
The supermoon does not have any adverse effects as some people fear. But it triggers high tides

A supermoon is the coincidence of a full moon or a new moon with the closest approach the Moon makes to the Earth on its elliptical orbit at distance of 356,511 km, resulting in the largest apparent size of the lunar disk as seen from Earth
The moon won’t come this close to earth again until November 25, 2034. However, the next supermoon is on May 25, 2017

LIVE BROADCAST
The Slooh Community Observatory will offer a live broadcast for November’s full moon on November 13 at 7 pm. SPACE-Chennai is organising supermoon observation at Shri Natesan Vidyasala Matriculation Higher Secondary School for 150 students and their parents on November 14 from 6 pm to 8 pm
