Boy caught, charged with impersonation

A 19-year-old boy was caught on Wednesday when he allegedly impersonated his cousin for the Class X board exam as a private candidate.

CHENNAI: A 19-year-old boy was caught on Wednesday when he allegedly impersonated his cousin for the Class X board exam as a private candidate.

Education department officials said S Sathish impersonated his cousin M Raja (24), at the Valluvar Gurukulam Higher Secondary School (examination centre) at Tambaram.

According to District Educational Officer, Chengalpattu, the examination started at 9.30 am and the invigilator was suspicious and caught Satish after five minutes. He found the photo in the hall ticket different from that of the person sitting for examination.

“For the past two years, the hall tickets carry the photo of the candidates. As a result, it’s difficult to impersonate. Sathish’s face looks similar to that of his cousin Raja,” he said.

Later a squad was called and Satish was taken to the police station. Raja was a private candidate and is a resident of Kuvathur Karapakam on ECR. According to police,  Sathish is a second year diploma student in a private engineering college. A case has been registered under section 420  (cheating) IPC.
