Families protest against death, loss of eyesight

Agitators cite woman dying in surgery and a man losing vision after sinus operation

HYDERABAD: Two families staged a protest at Omni Hospital in Kukatpally, alleging negligence on part of doctors. One of them protested after a woman from their family died after delivering a baby, the other was angry about a botched sinus operation.
A 25-year-old woman Sravanthi was admitted to Omni Hospital on November 1, because of a heart problem, soon after she delivered a baby on October 31 at Sadasivpet. Doctors at Matrusri Hospital in Sadasivpet suggested that she seek treatment in Hyderabad. Kukatpally sub-inspector K Naidu said: “After five days of treatment, the woman was scheduled to be discharged on Sunday. On Sunday morning, the woman went into coma and died while undergoing the treatment. Her parents and other relatives alleged that the doctors injected some medicine, due to which Sravanthi died.” Her family members staged a protest in front of the hospital alleging.

After the doctors conversed with the family, they were satisfied with the reasons fort death and took the body to their native place, he added. In another incident, software engineer Hari Prasad from Kukatpally, underwent a surgery for a sinus issue at the hospital. The operation was performed by Dr Payal, who was a consultant doctor, said sources. After a few days of the operation, Prasad faced problems with his vision and went to LV Prasad Eye Hospital for a test. The doctors there found that the sinus operation was not performed well and that he could lose his eyesight.
On Sunday, Prasad along with his friends and relatives came to Omni Hospitals and staged protest against the hospital management. The consultant doctor was called to the hospital and the he said he would perform another surgery and solve the issue and Prasad was convinced. The victims refused to talk tro the media. The sub-inspector said that he, along with a team had gone to the hospital to prevent lawlessness and that they hadn’t receved any complaint from the victims.
