HYDERABAD: A day after a woman allegedly ended her life for the creation of Gattuppal mandal in Nalgonda district, another youngster from newly-created Kamareddy district died in a similar fashion, while allegedly demanding authorities to include Nagireddypet mandal in reorganised Medak district.

The deceased was identified as Raju (26), a dalit beonging to Maltummeda village of Nagireddypet mandal of newly-created Kamareddy district. Raju is survived by his two sons. Around 3 pm on Saturday, Raju came to Tank Bund holding a bag containing news papers, representation papers and a bottle filled with petrol. “As he reached the Thyagaraya statue, he committed suicide by pouring petrol and setting himself ablaze,” said the Gandhinagar Inspector A Sanjeeva Rao.

The traffic police noticed the victim who was completely engulfed by flames. The police doused the flames and alerted the 108 medical emergency staff.

The victim received 90 per cent burn injuries. Raju died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi General hospital. Raju's voter ID was discovered at the spot.

The state government has merged the Nagireddypet mandal in Kamareddy during the recently held district formation in the state against locals' wish. Since then, residents of some of the villages in Nagireddypet mandal have been staging protests, demanding that their mandal be merged with Medak district, instead of Kamareddy.

Vexed over the government’s decision and its callous attitude in merging the mandal with newly-formed Kamareddy district, Raju took the extreme step.
