Two daily wage labourers die after wall collapse

HYDERABAD: Two daily wage laborers were killed when a compound wall of under construction five-storeyed building collapsed at Vivekanandanagar in Mehdipatnam under Asifnagar police station limits on Wednesday. The deceased are S Krishnaiah(44) and Nagesh(38), both residents of Navodaya Colony of Mehdipatnam. According to police, at around 9.30 am, one Mason Sailu hired two workers Nagesh and Krishnaiah for the day by offering `400 each for centering work of an under construction building in Mehdipatnam. Around 10 am, Nagesh and Krishnaiah came to the work place and started their work in lifting wooden material from cellar of the building to terrace of a five storeyed under construction building where a pent house is being constructed. The wooden material was being shifted to terrace for setting up support pillars for slab of the pent house.

Ghouse Moinuddin, assistant commissioner of Police (ACP), Asifnagar division, said that the two workers were lifting wooden material to terrace of the building. When the duo were standing on the edge of a small gap between under construction building and neighbouring apartment, suddenly the compound wall that had become damp due to recent rains collapsed and fell on the victims. “In the mishap, the duo received serious head injuries and were trapped under debris. They both died on the spot. We collected the information regarding the incident and details of the owner is being collected. A cases under section 304 A (Causing death by negligence) of IPC will be registered and initiate action,” the ACP said. 


The Mason Sailu, who hired the two workers, rushed to the spot after receiving information said that his friend who is contractor of the building brought pressure on him to send two persons for centering work. “I hired two workers by offering `400 each for the day.

Minutes after the two workers came to the place, I received a phone call from the other workers and informed that Nagesh and Krishnaiah were injured and asked me to come to the place,” Sailu said. 


Meanwhile, the two workers were members of Building and Other  Construction Workers Union under affiliation of CITU. The union leaders who received information visited the place and staged a dharna at the place of scene with the dead bodies demanding to take stern action against building owner for not taking precautionary measurers and demanded compensation to the deceased family members. 
Later, the police shifted the bodies for postmortem. Police forces were deployed at the place after Union leaders and family members thronged at the place. As the incident took place near by Pillar.no 28, the main stretch of Mehdipatnam, the traffic movement came to standstill for a couple of hours.
