Speed up search for my son in Tanzania: Father's request to District Collector

The missing person Alugubelly Janardhan Reddy, 35, was working as a senior planning engineer at Geita Gold Mines in Tanzania.

HYDERABAD: Following the case of a 35-year-old Hyderabad engineer drowning in lake Victoria in Tanzania while swimming along with his friends, his father Raghava Reddy approached Hyderabad district collector Rahul Bojja seeking government’s intervention in speeding up search operation by directing Tanzania authorities.

The missing person Alugubelly Janardhan Reddy, 35, was working as a senior planning engineer at Geita Gold Mines in Tanzania. Reddy has an MTech from IIT Kharagpur.

He was married and was living in Tanzania along with his family members. Reddy’s parents are native of Narketpally of Nalgonda district and are residing at Khajaguda in the city.

In his letter, Raghava Reddy said that his son Janardhan Reddy went to Tanzania 10 years ago and has been living along with his family members while working as a senior planning engineer in Geita Gold Mines.

He said that the incident was brought to the notice of Reddy’s company management, they failed to take up search operation. “I request the Telangana government to communicate with the Tanzania authorities in tracing my son and extend their assistance,’’ Raghava Reddy said.

Subsequently, the state government has informed the matter to minister K Taraka Rama Rao who is touring abroad. The minister brought the issue to notice of External Affairs Ministry and sought an action.

According to information available, Reddy and his three friends went for a picnic to Asilia Rubondo Island on January 21. The same night, all the persons including Reddy were swimming in Lake Victoria. Reddy who entered into deep water and drowned.

However, his three friends were safe. Minutes after Reddy drowned, his friends noticed that he was missing and started to search for him. Meanwhile, his friends alerted the local police who swung into action in the search for Reddy.
