L&TMRHL wants deadline for Metro Rail works to be extended in Hyderabad

The L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL ) has approached the state government for extension of deadline for completion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

HYDERABAD:  The L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited (L&TMRHL ) has approached the state government for extension of deadline for completion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project in all the three corridors barring the old city section. HMRL managing director NVS Reddy on Saturday told mediapersons that it is for the state government to take a decision on furthering the deadline.

As per the Concessionaire Agreement (CA) signed between the state government and L&TMRHL , the project was to be completed by July 2017 but considering the several issues the concessionaire had to confront with land acquisition, shifting of underground utilities, traffic and several court cases resulting in the delay of the project and the deadline needs to be extended, NVS Reddy said.

The government is expected to give a year’s extension to the L&TMRHL till July 2018 for completing the project in all the three corridors. Streetscaping, parking & pedestrian facilities Giving details on street parking, pedestrian facilities and urban rejuvenation works, NVS Reddy said HMR project is being built as a ‘Transit plus’ urban rejuvenation system with last mile connectivity for a seamless travel providing comfort, convenience and safety for travellers.

Metro Rail stations will be equipped with electric vehicles (EVs) for feeder trips, carpool and short trips. Adequate network of EV stations will be made available at the metro stations with facilities for charging the vehicles, replacing used batteries with recharged batteries etc.

EVs and feeder buses will ply from inner residential areas to metro stations and will discourage use of personal vehicles for decongestion at road level, he added.

Under urban rejuvenation works,parking and circulation facilities are being developed at 32 of the 64 metro rail stations. Of the 32, L&TMRHL will develop 17 parking and circulation areas in Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Parade Grounds (GHMC office), Miyapur (Terminal Station, Balanagar (HUDA Truck Terminal), Erramanzil (Govt. Qrts), Malakpet, LB Nagar, Falaknuma, Hitec city-NIFT/ATDC Land, Nagole Terminal Station, Raidurg, Yousufguda, Old Gandhi Hospital land, Dhobighat land a t MGBS , Ku k a t p a l l y, Rasoolpura.
