HYDERABAD: Hyderabad will soon have a park exclusively for pet dogs with an investment of `2 crore, announced Mayor Bonthu Rammohan speaking to media on Saturday at the PETEX India 2017, a national-level pet expo being conducted in Hyderabad at Hitex. Once the park comes up, it will be one of its kind in the country.  The mayor said that the dog park will come up behind Radisson Hotel at Gachibowli. He said that the tenders have been finalized and development work of the park will begin soon. The park will have agility equipment for dogs and other amenities.

He said that as dogs are not allowed at parks in Hyderabad, so this park will not just provide space for dog owners to take their dogs to but will also provide a platform for dog-owners to socialize and network with each other. Dr Subhash Babu, founding president of The Hyderabad Canine Club said that the park will prove a space for the pets to romp and play, which is difficult to get in a concrete jungle like Hyderabad.

The expo which will conclude on Sunday evening, is being touted as India’s largest and also has a dog show championship and a show by Cat Fanciers Association of India(CFAI). It was said at the show that dogs are the most popular pets globally owned by 33 per cent of pet owners, cats second at 23 per cent, fish third at 12 per cent and birds at 6 per cent.
