HYDERABAD: Telangana government will introduce and implement its new parking policy for the state by end of the year. For the benefit of vehicle users, the government is in the process of developing an application which would inform users about availability of parking spaces. On a pilot basis, this would be implemented in three police commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda, minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, K Taraka Rama Rao said on Monday after a review meeting with all stakeholders.

The policy also brings in strict rules like imposing penalty on the properties which do not have parking facilities and regulating parking charges in the wake of fleecing by the parking agencies in the city and other major municipal corporations. The government will go for multi-level parking facilities and the new parking policy will be made in such a way that it will pave the way for systematic development of the twin cities, the minister said.

The policy gains importance in the backdrop of an average of 700 new vehicles being added on city roads every day. The policy would be extended to the state in the later stage. The commuter parking would be developed and streamlined at all the sub-urban railway, MMTS, metro stations and TSRTC bus terminals by the respective authorities to facilitate the commuters to adopt the ‘park and ride’ concept. To encourage the promotion of parking facility in ULBs, the government would offer sops which include permitting commercial use in relaxation of Zoning Regulations, relaxation of the height of the building in case of multiple floors.  Moreover, 100 per cent property tax exemption for the parking area will be provided for a fixed number of years.
