International Food and Agri Expo to Begin from Oct 30

KOCHI: The 6th edition of the India International Food and Agri Expo (IIFAE-2014) will be held at the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) from October 30 to November 3.

The expo is being jointly organised by the Foundation for Organic Agriculture and Rural Development (KUFOS), in association with the Nabard, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Agriculture, the Animal Husbandry Department, the MPEDA, the Directorate of Cashew and Arecanut, the Coconut Development Board, the Kerala Agricultural University and the Veterinary University.

The five-day exhibition and workshops will include an agro-machinery expo, India organic fair, processed food expo and animal husbandry expo. It will also have workshops on organic aqua-culture, organic spices, organic coconut-based farming systems, farm mechanisation, quality assurance, value addition and market linkage. The IIFAE is an important trade exhibition for the agriculture and fisheries sectors of the country. The event aims at developing the Indian agriculture and

food industry by discovering the latest technologies in farm process management, and food production and processing that can ensure efficient and sustainable production, while improving the quality of food products.

  It provides a platform for exploring business opportunities in the sector by attracting professional exhibitors and visitors, including farmers, industrialists, executives of Indian and foreign companies, investors, traders, importers, exporters and general consumers.

The expo will be a venue for buyer-seller meetings on fruits, spices and organic products.

The ‘seafood court’, with various seafood dishes, will be the main attraction of the expo. Farmers, retailers, agricultural- entrepreneurs, agricultural machinery  manufacturers and food processing entrepreneurs will take part in the expo.

 At the expo, exporters and people who work in the agriculture and fisheries sectors are expected to come together and showcase their products - from spices to coffee and tea, cocoa, cashew and more.

Besides, the expo will have an array of farm machinery like tractors and power-tillers; irrigation systems; plant protection systems;  harvesting equipment; seeds; fertilisers; pesticides; livestock management equipment; and food processing equipment; as well as a number of finished food products.

Seminars and demonstration of machinery and product tasting have been been made a part of the trade show. Special seminars on farm tourism and organic farming are also included in it.The organising office of the expo was inaugurated by KUFOS vice-chancellor B Madhusoodana Kurup at the university. Foundation for Organic Agriculture and Rural Development chairman P C Syriac and Tamil Nadu former chief secretary presided over the function.
