Curry leaf seeds for sale

KOCHI: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Ernakulam) of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute is coming out with quality curry leaf seeds. The one-kilogram packet at Rs 1100 is part of Self Farming for Safe Food  Campaign of KVK.

Following reports on high pesticide residues in curry leafs available in market, there was growing interest among public to raise curry leaf plants for own use at home. However, the saplings commonly available in the state that are raised from root splits do not establish well as tap roots will not be developed in that. The KVK identified that the saplings raised from seeds develop tap roots and thus easy to get established.

Nearly 1500 seedlings can be raised from 1 kilogram seeds. Seeds have to be planted approximately 2 cm deep in polyethylene covers measuring 15cm x 10 cm filled with potting mixture. Germination takes 10-25 days and saplings would be ready for transplanting in two months.

Advance booking is open till August 16 at CMFRI Sales counter.
