Air passengers affected

KOCHI: LLike every other sector, the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes hit the air passengers badly in the state. The transactions at duty free  shops at departure and arrival terminals were affected along with other  shops in the airport.

Though there was a provision to purchase foreign exchange equivalent to  Rs 5000 at selected points in the airport, the passengers were reluctant to go for routine shopping.

However, those who arrived at the airport without enough money in the  denomination of Rs 100 notes were sent away by the cab service operators and  shop owners.

The Cochin International Airport Limited spokesperson said the extent of the impact of demonetisation at duty free shops attached to the airport would be known only after 24 hours. “But it is certain that the passengers were hit by the demonetisation like in every sector,” he added.

However, no chaotic scenes or untoward incidents were reported anywhere on  the airport premises though there were many stranded customers who reached  here unaware of the developments.
