KOCHI: Clad in white jerseys, many thronged the Le Meridien Hotel for  Run to Give 2016, a charity event organised by Le Meridien and Society for  Rehabilitation of Visually Challenged (SRVC), on Sunday. The seven-kilometre run commenced on hotel premises, moving through  Kannidikadu and ending back at the hotel. The funds were raised by the  registrations of the participants which was 500 per person. Funds were also  generated by event sponsors Bacardi, Sula Vineyards and Executive Events.

“It is a noble campaign. Every year we organise Run to Give with charity  partners differing. This year we have partnered with SRVC after looking at the immense work they have done for the visually impaired people through  providing education and jobs. The entire funds generated would be given to them for the cause. Last time we generated 1 lakh and this time the registrations reaching more than 320, we surely are going to raise great  amount,” said Shimon Chacko, head of Marketing and Public Relations at Le  Meridien.

SRVC which was started 15 years ago serves visually impaired people by   educating them on general awareness and furnish them to the society. “The motto of SRVC is to get the visually challenged people to step in and work  with the mainstream society. They do have all the rights to sports and access. We teach computers, personality development and mobility. We serve by making them enter the telecom sector. They have the right to be  independent and to be valuable resource to the society. The nicest thing  about the event is that visually impaired people also took part,” says  Roy, project head, SRVC.
