KOCHI: World-Class executive dormitory accommodation at an economical rate is now a reality in the city with Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) opening India’s first exquisite air-conditioned bed space dormitory at MG Road Metro station on Thursday. The first-bed space dormitory, which will be managed and operated by Peters Inn, was inaugurated at the MG Road Metro Station jointly by Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain along with MLAs S Sharma, P T Thomas, V D Satheeshan, Hibi Eden, Former MLA Dominic Presentation and KMRL MD APM Mohammed Hanish. The fully air-conditioned rooms are equipped with locker facility, free WiFi, round-theclock check-in and check-out facility and security cameras.

The 200-bed air-conditioned cabins with 40 toilets have been designed as an AC train compartment coach. Each bed will provide sufficient privacy with reading light and phone charging point. The daily rent for the bed space is `395. KMRL has allotted 3,500 square feet of space to set up the MG Road facility. "This is part of the steps taken by KMRL to increase non-ticketing revenue. It also provides the citizens with the utilisation of space in a manner that propels them to a more convenient living. Hence, taking into account the increasing need for providing accommodation for solo travellers, we have decided to introduce this option," said Mohammed Haneesh.

Meanwhile, KMRL has also set up a separate facility for ladies with closed rooms where every bed space will also have a locker facility to keep their valuable items. The check-in time is 7 pm and check out at 8 am. Customers can also avail the facility for a day stay. “We assure Peter’s Inn dormitory at M G Road Metro Station will be maintained professionally. We will also be taking group bookings. This is also an ideal interim alternative for people who are on long drives,” said Francis Mukkanikal, managing director of Peter’s Inn.
