KOCHI:Marlabs, an IT services firm offering 360-degree digital transformation frameworks, has decided to expand its operations in Kerala. The US-based firm which runs a technology solutions facility at Infopark in Kochi with a 200-strong workforce has decided to launch a new office on the same premises in August.

The company will recruit 200 IT professionals over the next year and around 70 will be joining the new facility within the next two months, Marlabs CFO Salil Ravindran told Express.Marlabs, a leading digital solutions firm, has many Fortune 100 companies in its client list. The India operations, headquartered in Bengaluru, has 1,500 IT staff. Globally, the company will be hiring around 2,000 IT professionals over the next one year, he said.

Marlabs offers IT solutions in sectors including education, health care, financial services and retail business. “We recently hired around 70 freshers at the national level; 20 of them are from Kerala. Next year, we will hire 150 freshers, with around 40 of them being from Kerala. Marlabs is very bullish about Kerala and we will be expanding our operations to Thiruvananthapuram within two years,” said Salil.
Observing that Kerala has the potential to grow as an IT hub, Salil said Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark in Kochi have changed Kerala’s prospects in the IT realm.

“Malayalees are technically skilled and good in analysis. With the expansion of Infopark and Smart City, Kochi will grow into a hub of IT firms and will have a talent pool of around 50,000 IT professionals. This will change perceptions and more global operators will arrive in Kochi,” he said.

Salil said engineering institutions should interact with the industry to equip the students to face the challenges in future. “Technology is changing and everything is being automated. There will be a big development in sectors like data analysis, artificial intelligence, internet of things (IoT) and wireless technology. Students who are skilled in these sectors will have plenty of opportunities. Our engineering institutions should provide better training to students in applications,” he said.
