War of Innovators at Tech Top-2015 Today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The tenth edition of the National Innovation Contest - TechTop-2015, to identify and recognise the best innovative talents from among the students of engineering colleges and institutes in the country will kick start from June 25.

Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology (MBCET), will host the two-day competition to be inaugurated by Kuncheria P Isaac, Vice Chancellor of Kerala Technological University at 9.30am.

This year, 21 projects from engineering colleges across the country will be vying for the coveted TechTop cash prize of Rs one lakh sponsored by Degree Controls.

Rajesh M Nair, founder of TechTop  and Visiting Faculty of MIT USA & Director ASB Malaysia;  Hemang Shah from Qualcomm; P Joy Oommen, CMD of KFC; Bajiu N Kurup, DGM of NABARD; and Sanjay Vijayakumar, Chairman of Startup Village will be present.A junior innovation competition for school students has also been organised for the first time. Eight teams participating in the competition will exhibit their projects at the two-day  event.

The projects by the finalists and the school will be on display at Mar Baselios College in

an exhibition to be held along with the competition. TechTop will be open to school and college students and general public on both days.  The final round of TechQuiz-2015 conducted by TechTop for school students also will be held at MBCET at 11 am on June 25. R Narayanan, Professor of MBCET and formerly with TCS, will be the quiz master.

The theme for TechTop 2015 is ‘Smart Designs for Healthy Living’. A total of 340 project proposals were received this year from engineering colleges of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

As many as 86 projects with their working models were chosen by the judges panel for the next round out of which  21 projects have been chosen for the finals. TechTop 2015 will conclude with the valedictory function on June 26, 2015 where the winners will be announced with the best projects. Governor P Sathasivam will be the chief guest for the function and will be giving away the awards to the winners.

The Best project will be awarded a cash prize of Rs one lakh sponsored by Degree Controls. The second prize is `50,000, third prize is `20,000 and two consolation prizes of `10,000 each will be given. Women in Technology prize of `20, 000 will be awarded to the best All Women Team.
